چکیده

Aim: Sessile serrated lesions (SSL) have the potential for malignant transformation into colorectal carcinoma (CRC), which develops via pathway of carcinogenesis. Material and Methods: Based on colonoscopy pathology reports, all sessile or polyps in risk screening group were studied at an urban medical research center between July 2018 2022. We prospectively included consecutive classified as a hyperplastic polyp (HP), lesion (SSL), traditional adenoma (TSA), unclassified adenoma, synchronous neoplasm polyp. Results: During 48-month study period, 167 cases diagnosed. In study, 97 (58.1%) patients male, 70 female (41.9%), mean age was 59.74 (± 11.1). Hematoxylin-eosin preparations available complete analysis 226 SSL, 117 had adenomatous carcinomas. Approximately 88.1% ≤10 mm less diameter. There significant correlation size (≤10 mm) epithelial (p=0.000). particular, detected sigmoid colon with rectum relatively larger than other locations. The most common locations our study. association anatomical distribution follows; HP frequently observed 57.7% (194 polyps), SSL 6.8% (23 TSA 2.1% (7 0.6% (2 cases), conventional seen 31% (104 polyps) polyps, three (0.9%) Conclusions: Hyperplastic are lesions, tubular adenomas commonly accompanied by polyps. HPs distal colon, particularly rectum. Future prospective studies using uniform diagnostic criteria considering clinical outcomes needed to make accurate decisions regarding surveillance treatment lesions.

Optimizing resection of sessile serrated polyps.

Removal of precancerous lesions during colonoscopy reduces colorectal cancer (CRC) incidence and mortality [1]. Recent data have highlighted that interval CRC occurs despite previous colonoscopy. Incomplete removal of polyps is one of the factors leading to interval CRCs [2]. Incomplete polypectomy of sessile serrated polyps (SSPs) is four-fold higher than that of conventional adenomas [3] and ...

Molecular characteristics of colorectal serrated polyps and hyperplastic polyps

The serrated neoplasia pathway of colorectal carcinogenesis is characterized by BRAF mutation and aberrant DNA methylation, which have not been reported on Korean patients. The aim of this study was to investigate BRAF mutation and DNA methylation in colorectal serrated polyps and the right colon.Between 2005 and 2013, 146 colon polyps (47 tubular adenomas [TAs], 53 traditional serrated adenoma...

Screening, management and surveillance for the sessile serrated adenomas/polyps.

The incidence and mortality rates from right-sided colorectal cancers (CRCs) have not decreased, compared with the significant reduction of CRCs in the left colon in recent years. It is likely that a significant proportion of right-sided CRCs evolve from undetected sessile serrated adenomas/polyps (SSA/Ps) in the primary colonoscopy. Increasing evidences suggest that SSA/Ps are high-risk lesion...

Sessile serrated polyps: cancer risk and appropriate surveillance.

Sessile serrated polyps are a recently recognized type of neoplastic polyp that develops along a molecular pathway different from that of conventional adenomas. While the clinical significance of the serrated pathway to colorectal cancer is clear, further study is needed to understand a patient's lifetime colorectal cancer risk posed by serrated neoplasms and the optimal postpolypectomy surveil...

β-catenin helices in the cytoplasm of sessile serrated adenoma/polyps and conventional colorectal adenomas.

Initiation and progression in conventional adenomas is triggered by deregulation of WNT/β-catenin signaling. In the absence of WNT signal (off-state), β-catenin prevents phosphorylation of GSK3β, leading to aberrant nuclear accumulation in human tumors. It has been postulated that mutations in the β-catenin gene are always associated with a morphologically-neoplastic course. While investigating...
